WHAT THIS GAME IS

Medical Loss is a free game. Benefica Health, its employees, its members, its patients and their families are fictional. Any resemblance to a real person or company is unintended.

Some facts in the game are marked REAL. Those are drawn from published reporting, court records, surveys and public data, and each one links to its source. At the end of the game, the screen "They were real" summarizes true stories that echo what happened in your game. Names of patients and their relatives are deliberately left out.

Nothing in this game is medical, legal, financial or insurance advice. If you are dealing with a denied claim, contact your insurer, your state insurance department or a patient advocate.

PRIVACY

• No account, no advertising.
• Visit statistics, only if you say yes. When you first open the game, a small card asks whether we may count visits with Google Analytics (Google LLC). Nothing is loaded from Google before you press Accept. If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga) and records pages viewed, rough location from your IP address (shortened before it is stored), device and browser type, and a few moments of the game: starting a game, each quarter, the notch you set on the dial, the mini-games you open, the REAL facts you open, the ending you reach, and whether you copy your result or play again. Nothing you type is recorded, because there is nothing to type.
• Medical Loss lives on myinsightsgames.com, so it shares that site's choice and its Google Analytics account: one answer covers the whole site. Change your mind at any time with "Visit statistics" on the game's title screen or at the bottom of myinsightsgames.com. If you say no after saying yes, the game stops counting and deletes the _ga cookies.
• Your progress, the endings you found and your sound setting are stored only in your own browser (local storage). Nothing about your game is sent to us beyond the statistics above. Clearing your browser data, or pressing RESTART in the game, deletes it.
• The game keeps a copy of its own files in your browser so it can be played offline.
• Fonts are hosted on this site.
• Our host, Infomaniak (Switzerland), keeps standard technical server logs (such as IP address, date and page requested) for security and operation.
• Links to news articles and to other sites open those sites, which have their own privacy rules.
