WHAT'S NEW
MEDICAL LOSS: A HEALTH INSURANCE GAME
VERSION 29
03.11.2026
- The desk: the file you cannot hand off is now a real card at the top of the pile, stamped IMPOSED. You still pick two of the others.
- The board now talks to you. When you lose its patience, Victor Hale, the chair, tells you the next morning why, and how close you are to the door. He also tells you when you win it back.
- The earnings call: when you tell the truth out loud, the analyst's firm moves Benefica to SELL while you are still talking, and Victor Hale texts you.
- Nights: when the text happens in a bedroom, you now see the bedroom, the sleeping child, the lamp, the tablet or the book. Thanksgiving shows who is at the table. Phone calls show you on the phone. Paul appears on the lobby intercom, and your name appears in chalk on the plaza.
- On phones, every new page now starts at the top.
VERSION 28
01.11.2026
- 16 new files on the desk, each built on a real, sourced practice: gold card laws, surprise-bill arbitration, mental health parity, automatic downcoding, sepsis audits, chemo by mail, out-of-network repricing, paying your own clinics, buying a medical group, ER denials, Medicare extras, price transparency, home infusions, autism therapy caps, IVF, copay maximizers.
- Every quarter now draws one of 24 extra files at random, so two games no longer show the same desk. Project Hearth and Project Lean arrive in a different quarter each game.
- Corrected a real fact: the 2018 Oklahoma verdict against Aetna was $25.5 million in total, of which $10 million was punitive.
VERSION 27
November 1, 2026
- Nights in the office: you now stand at the window, sit with your phone, work at your screen or lie on the office couch, as the text says. The cleaning crew shows up when the text mentions them.
- At home: whoever fell asleep on the couch is lying down, asleep. When you stand in the hallway, you are in the hallway. At Thanksgiving, the empty place is set.
VERSION 26
01.11.2026
- Visit statistics, only if you agree: a small card asks once, and the same choice covers all of myinsightsgames.com. Change it any time with "Visit statistics" on the title screen. Details on the privacy page.
- The result you copy at the end now includes a link to the game.
VERSION 25
01.11.2026
- When the board lets you go, its chair comes to your office in person, with a security guard and a cardboard box.
- Visitors now face the way they walk.
VERSION 24
01.11.2026
- A faster start: the title screen keeps one short content note, and the board's welcome now appears beside the city while the elevator comes up.
- Your first game, the board chooses who you are. After your first ending, you choose (or let it surprise you).
- The door on the left of your office now opens, for visitors you would rather not have.
VERSION 23
01.11.2026
- Explanations everywhere: hover (or tap on a phone) any box of the dashboard, the stock ticker, the five steps of the day, your phone, and the DOCTORS and EXPOSURE gauges on the dial.
- The scrolling ticker now says what it is: your share price against your three rivals.
VERSION 22
01.11.2026
- Speech bubbles stay inside the scene, wrap long sentences, and point at the person speaking.
- Nora now speaks while she is at your desk, not after she has left.
- Bubbles stay long enough to read, also when your phone is set to reduce motion.
- A bubble never stays behind when the scene changes.
- Phone held sideways: the city on the left, the story on the right, nothing hidden.
- Phone held upright: your latest message takes one line (tap it to read it all), leaving more room for the story.
- Fixed: tapping fast in the "Press 1 for claims" phone menu could freeze the game.
- Explanations opened from a REAL stamp or a "?" now have a close button.
VERSION 21
01.11.2026
- On computers, the whole game now fits in the window. No more page scrolling: the city view grows or shrinks with your screen, and only the right-hand panel scrolls when a text is long.
- When the window is short, the dashboard goes on one line and your phone messages move under the panel, so the city view stays large.
- The game now lives at myinsightsgames.com/medicalloss.
VERSION 20
01.11.2026
The first public version.
- You are the new CEO of Benefica Health, a fictional US health insurer with 31 million members. Eight quarters, one number to hit.
- Three backgrounds to choose from: the CFO, the nurse, the consultant. Each one has a different family, a different home and a different reputation on Wall Street.
- Every quarter: patient files on your desk, the dial that sets how hard your company reviews claims, the earnings call, the news, and the night at home.
- Short scenes away from the desk: the reviewer's chair, the appeals desk, your own company's phone line, the provider directory, a hospital that wants a better contract, the walk across the plaza.
- Ten endings.
- Anything stamped REAL is a sourced fact. At the end, the screen "They were real" lists the true stories behind what you saw, without names, with links to the reporting.
- Works on phones and computers. Progress is saved in your browser. Plays offline once loaded.
